NUESTRO COMPROMISO

Urso Hotel & Spa is housed in an original early 20th century building. Built by José María Mendoza Ussía in 1915, it was the headquarters of the Papelera Española, and to this day retains the splendour of its original grandeur, with tile friezes by the iconic Toledo ceramist Juan Ruiz de Luna. Since its opening and refurbishment of the building in 2014, Urso Hotel & Spa maintains a strong commitment to local culture and heritage, maintaining, restoring and extolling all the original elements of the emblematic building. Our commitment is to assume a social and environmental responsibility by carrying out actions focused on improving the world around us.

ENVIROMENT

Urso Hotel & Spa assumes its responsibility towards the environment and is committed to sustainable development, reducing its environmental footprint in energy consumption.

Thus, we have a centralised solar energy system through solar collectors located on the roof of the building, which provide URSO Hotel with 65% of the energy needed to provide hot water and heating on a daily basis.
On the other hand, plastics have been eliminated from the entire customer experience, in line with our Zero Waste objective, eliminating single-dose and guaranteeing the separation of 100% of the waste. This policy of reducing our impact extends to the progressive elimination of polluting chemicals and their replacement with biodegradable products.

In addition, we have implemented the necessary technology to reduce the use of water in the rooms and in the hotel’s operations, thereby also reducing the energy required to heat it. All the energy consumed by Hotel Urso comes from renewable sources, minimising the direct impact of our activity as much as possible.

SOCIAL RESPONSABILITY

Our commitment to present and future society is part of the Urso experience in every small detail. It is the possibility of creating a positive impact on the people around us that drives us to constant improvement. An example of this is the sweets in the minibar, which come from the A La Par Foundation, a foundation that helps people in need and with special abilities, or the oil used in the kitchen, recycled through a foundation that allocates its profits to disadvantaged groups.

All of the hotel’s products are chosen based on our KM0 policy, supporting our local producers (such as the Barceló Market and other suppliers in the area), creating and supporting the creation of jobs in Madrid and the surrounding area.

We also prioritise recommending experiences related to local culture and heritage. All our collaborators are trained in sustainability, thus favouring environmental and social awareness.

Our commitment is constant and limitless, tireless and non-conformist, we continue to work to continuously improve, submitting ourselves to frequent audits and external controls that drive us to improve towards an increasingly socially and environmentally sustainable activity.
